In Moscow, a firefighter cat named Tolik was nominated for the international award “My Gentle and Affectionate Monster,” also known as the “Shaggy Oscar.” This was announced on the contest's official website.
Tolik became a participant in the nomination “Our little brothers”. For several years now, he has served at the 89th fire department of the Directorate of the Southeast Administrative District of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia in Moscow and is a member of the Semenychi detachment. The cat often sleeps in the fire chief's office, likes to appear at firefighter training sessions, and catches mice, lizards, and birds.
“The cat itself is calm, affectionate and friendly,” the website says.
In December 2024, Tolik was even awarded the rank of sole warrant officer of the internal affairs agency “for dedicated performance of cat duties”. Comrades made miniature shoulder straps for the cat. They also plan to make him a miniature real Russian Emergencies Ministry uniform.
The international prize “My gentle and affectionate beast” has been awarded in Zelenogradsk since 2019. The jury includes public figures, politicians, journalists and experts from several countries .
