Russians are warned about the dangers of transferring money to strangers using phone numbers

“By transferring money to a stranger, for example in a market or in a vehicle, you may become an accomplice in the financing of terrorism,” the notice said.

Russians are also advised to be careful with charitable donations, so as not to get into big trouble and get entangled in a criminal case.

GURB reiterates that punishment under Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Promotion of terrorist activities”) can reach up to life imprisonment. People should use legal methods to pay for services. Currently, publications from the management's Telegram channel and from the website have been deleted.

Previously, Russians were warned about a new phishing scheme on Telegram. Messenger users receive messages from friends asking them to vote for someone. The link in the letter leads to a fraudulent website, after clicking, the owner will lose access to the account.
