An analysis of Steam reviews over ten years (2014-2024) shows a decline in user review positivity. According to World's Edge Director of Business Development Will McCahill, in 2014, 89% of reviews were positive, but by 2024 that number dropped to 84.2%. Experts link the temporary increase in 2019 to a change in Steam's policy on handling negative reviews. This was reported by WN Hub.

The least positive reviews were in Asian languages. In 2024, only 73% of reviews in Japanese, 76% in Traditional Chinese, and 80% in Simplified Chinese were positive. Korean language shows 81% positive reviews. By comparison, Romanian topped the rankings with 92% positive reviews and Brazilian Portuguese with 91%. However, it is worth noting that the exclusion of Black Myth: Wukong's exceptionally high ratings from the Chinese statistics further reduces the positivity level.

Russian, the third most popular language on Steam, received 85% positive reviews by 2024. Therefore, the study shows a downward trend in the overall level of positive reviews, with the European gaming community Asia expressed the most criticism.
