A bill has been presented to the State Duma aimed at banning advertising of tarot reading services and involves blocking Internet resources offering such services. This document is published in the database of the House of Representatives.

A draft ban on advertising for tarot card readers has been submitted to the State Duma

The bill was introduced into the Duma by deputy Andrei Svintsov. The document talks about introducing changes to the law “to ban the advertising of esoteric services “tarot reading services” and develop mechanisms to identify and block resources” where such services are offered grant.

The explanatory text for the bill states that the initiative is designed to reduce the proliferation of tarot reading services and protect society from “unscrupulous advisors” who can influence negatively affects human physical and mental health.

The document emphasizes: “Based on the moral, ethical and spiritual standards of modern Russian society, the services of “tarot readers” belong to the genre of fiction.

The explanatory note also notes that a significant section of society views such activities as “a type of fraud”.

Information about the development of a bill banning advertising of fortune-telling using tarot cards appeared in November 2024. Svintsov noted that we are not talking about banning fortune-telling as entertainment.

Subsequently, the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) conducted a survey on a possible ban. More than half (62%) of respondents support a ban on advertising of tarot readers. Another 55% of respondents supported a complete ban on the commercial activities of tarot readers in Russia.
